April 2008 Australia East Coast.

Heading along the East Coast towards Sydney with lots of stops in quaint villages along the way, beaches gallore with plenty fish and big waves for surfing and swimming. The weather was great till the 21 st of april when it started raining and it never really stopped till the end of the month. We heard later that it had been one of the wetest months in history, and ofcourse Christopher who came for two weeks in his school holidays was not too impressed, but we had a great time exploring Sydney together.

Bermagui is a pretty fishingport made famous when writter Zane Grey included it in his fishy tome, an American angler in Australia. You can see, that even today, there is plenty of fish.

Off the highway 15 kilometers south of Narooma, central Tilba is perched on the side of Mt. Dromedary. It is a delightful 19th century goldmining boom town.

Surfers flock to Surf beach, Malua Bay, the small Mc Kenzie beaches and Broulee. We set up for the night in Broulee and watched the surfers and Darren caught a Salmon in the surf, which later appeared to be a Mullet, which was still a nice catch for dinner.

 View from our lounge!.

Princess Highways, a spectacular drive with fantastic views of the Illawarra escarpment and the coast from Bald Hill Lookout, on the Southern boundary of the Royal national Park. This park offers dramatic cliffs secluded beaches, scrub and lush rainforest, it is the oldest gazetted national park in the world.

The harbour bridge like a great humpback whale dominates almost every aspect of the city as inescapably as blue water fills the end of every outer view. Day and night the bridge trembles and echoes like a live thing.

The picture perfect Sydney opera house is dramatically situated on the eastern headland of Circular Quay. It's soaring shell like exterior is one of the must see sights in the world.

A visit to Sydney is not complete without a stage show of some discription and we choose the splendid over the top State theatre to watch the musical Billy Elliot with music written by Elton John. We were very lucky and got our own balcony with just two seats, we felt like royalty.

Paddy's markets smack pack in the heart of China town, this Sydney institutuin is a great place to find cheap souvenirs, clothing, knick knacks and fresh fruit, vegetables and other food.

Sabine had to be in Sydney for three days for work and we caught up on her last evening, outside in the sun and later sunset, a good friend, a nice glass of wine and the harbour bridge on one side and the opera house on the other side how nice is that.

Darren and i enjoyed high tea, a tour and a performance from a world renown opera singer in the Opera house what a treat.

Sydney fishmarket selling more than 15 million kilograms of seafood annually, this large fishmarket is the place to get on first name terms with a bewildering array of scaly critters. We saw fish auctions first thing in the morning and had super fresh fish for breakkie.

Up and close with the locals, aboriginies who were performing in Sydney in Circular Quay, the instrument is called a Didgeridoo which makes a very deep sound..

Christopher arrived for two weeks school holidays and we stayed around Sydney and did lots of fun things together. Here we are on the hop on hop off explorer bus and Darren had to take him hostage to get a photo!!.

Cool dudes in the 3D cinema with an 18 metres by 18 meters screen on which we watched a Cousteau movie about whales and dolphines , magic.

Darren and Christopher went to the Blue mountains for three days, an excellent natural habitat which has been Sydney's wilderness getaway for the past century. The area boasts magnificient scenery, excellent bushwalks, gum trees, gorges, outdoor acticivities and waterfalls.

Darren and Christopher having an birds eye view of Sydney from the Sydney tower, the views

were jawdropping.

Christopher with his dream car a Ferrari convertible, which he was not (yet) allowed to take for a test drive and he could not convince us to do it either (yet!)

After Christopher left, we back tracked to Canberra as we skipped Canberra and came to Sydney a bit earlier than planned because Darren went back to NZ for a family visit., more about this in our next update.
